To Kids and Teens,
I’m so glad you found your way here!
Being a kid or a teenager is hard. I get it.
Whether your parents said you had to be here or you found your way here yourself, I’m here for you.
Here is what therapy with me is like:
Get-to-know-you questions
I want to get to know you first, so our first few sessions will be a lot about you and why you are here.
Trust building (it takes time!).
I want you to feel comfortable and safe sharing what is on your mind. Trust takes time, you don’t share your deepest darkest on day one with your friends, and while this is a confidential space, let’s practice good boundaries and let our work unfold as it will. It’s all okay!
Talk, Art, Play, Laughter
Sometimes we might talk, sometimes we might use art, sometimes we might be playful, and we will always laugh if the moment calls for it!
Using the amazing parts of you to help the parts that need some care and support.
I love finding the parts of you that are strong, the things you are good at, the shows/characters/books you love because all of those things say a lot about who you are. Let’s use the amazing parts of you to help you find your way through the dark parts.
No-Judgment Zone
Our therapy space is a no-judgment zone. However, if there are things that are not safe, I won’t just say it’s all ok, but I will seek to understand why it is happening.
Check-Ins with your parents
While our sessions are for you, I will check in with your parents periodically to see how you are doing at home and to help them support you. You might say, NO! I don’t think so! That’s valid. However, I will discuss what I am going to share, what types of things you have a voice in, and when I must share it (if it’s related to safety). If we can, we can even all talk together.
